The Edge Mountain Retreat in Hogsback is surrounded by cliffs, dramatic views and unspoilt indigenous Afromontane forest with fascinating swirling mists and cloud formations – all complementing the pristine, natural environment which Hogsback offers.
The Edge has a range of accommodation options for individuals, families and groups, including self-catering cottages (some perched on the edge of the cliff) and bed-and-breakfast rooms, all set in 15 acres of beautiful cool climate gardens. We offer our guests space, quiet and restfulness at affordable prices ranging from R250-R1000 per person per night.
From the edge of the cliff, which runs along the side of the property, there are spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and a deep gorge with beautiful, unspoilt indigenous Afromontane forest, often with a show of fascinating swirling mists and cloud formations.
Guests are encouraged to wonder through and explore our beautiful gardens which are filled with azaleas, rhododendrons, beeches, birches, dogwoods, camellias and enormous oaks, chestnuts and liquid ambers. There is a lovely walled rose garden and you may discover a few plants you have never seen!
Birds & Animals
You are sure to see a few birds of prey including eagles, jackal buzzards and kites enjoying the thermals off the cliff, as well as Knysna Louries, the endangered Cape Parrot and many other species in our garden. We have regular visits from the rare Samango monkeys and you are sure to spot some of our local baboons.
Restaurant & Function Venue
Our Restaurant at The Edge offers good food (locally grown organic when possible) and tea-time treats. We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Our Vula Vista Venue is a special space for wedding receptions, conferences, workshops and yoga retreats.
All our facilities are furnished with character and in a style of understated quality.
Our Chartres design Labyrinth in our garden is definitely worth exploring.
Hiking from The Edge
There is a lovely hike from The Edge which has beautiful views, and takes you through an area filled with proteas, fields of watsonias and you may be lucky enough to spot some rare indigenous orchids.
We look forward to welcoming you to The Edge Mountain Retreat in Hogsback.
